Museum of Entomology houses large holdings of active research collection of arthropod fauna with specific emphasis on insects. Currently, the Museum of Entomology is one of the important university-based research collection and repository of insects; varying form agriculturally important species, parasitic hymenopterans, forensically and medically important specimens. The wide arena of the collection with emphasis on specific taxonomic groups mainly of Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera and to a lesser extent, the Odonata, Mantoidea, Blattoidea, Dermaptera and Diptera is specifically significant as a source of systematic research and accurate identification of insects. Primarily the collection site of specimens covers the Western Ghats with regional emphasis on the Northern Kerala.
Mission
The mission of the entomology museum is the utilization of specimen records to facilitate and document research, to inculcate hands own experience in coursework and to outreach arthropod biology. We are committed to offer our specimen treasure accessible to researchers, students and public to pursue active interactions which can foster the platform for the exchange of knowledge both locally and globally.
We are eager to accept specimen contributions, particularly collections of geographical and ecological significance from unexplored areas as well as representative research vouchers to be documented with due acknowledgement. For more information contact the Entomology Museum.
