The Department of Zoology, a pioneer institute in the field of Entomology, was founded in 1963 as a centre of Kerala University and became a Department under the University of Calicut University in 1968. It was shifted to the Main campus in June 1970, became a full-fledged research department in 1975 and established in the present building since 1978. The department has produced 201 Ph. D. holders, flourished 53 M. Sc. and 39 M. Phil. batches, published over 3000 Research Articles and brought more than Rs. 250 million as external research grants through its eminent faculties and meritorious students down the past 59 years in pursuit of academic excellence.
