University of Calicut, the largest University in Kerala established in the year 1968 with historic mission of educational excellence in Malabar region of the state. Department of Zoology was established in 1963 as a satellite center of Kerala University and became the part of Calicut University in 1968. Since the inception Department of Zoology made remarkable achievements in various fields of Biology. Our traditional research leadership has made tremendous achievements with strong footprints in Basic Science Research and made the Department of Zoology an excellent centre for teaching and research.
The Department currently offers M.Sc. (CCSS), M. Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. M. Sc. students specialize in various aspects of General and Applied Entomology. Research groups include Entomology, Endocrinology, Acarology, Biosphere Ecology, Biochemistry, Biopesticides, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Microbiology. The Department faculties have produced nearly 200 Ph.Ds and published more than a thousand of research papers.
